As to whether or not any other weapons or combat focused abilities can be used remains unknown. Since it appears the only weapons in this game are the twin blades on our back, we fortunately won't have to worry about weapon degradation. The game is an action-adventure platformer with many combat moves and enemy types that seem to be inspired by The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Many are shown to still be engaging in everyday activities like carpentry, bartending or even music. Many of the characters the protagonist encounters seem to be a part of the darkness that has consumed their world, whether they like it or not. So far, the player character has only been referred to as "the protagonist," so it's unclear if they have an official name. From what was shown in the recent release date trailer, the protagonist awakens in a science laboratory, possibly having been experimented upon. The game's locations are varied, with areas including ancient temples, lava pits and floating castles.
The kingdom was once a prosperous land, but has been overrun by malevolent forces in a setting not unlike Demons Souls or Dark Souls games. Blue Fire takes place in the desolate kingdom of Penumbra, a land consumed by dark forces.
